looked up and saw this scene.
a barren tree and its stingy branches, shadowed against the calming backdrop of a cornflower blue sky.
and i thought.
is the tree's hideousness obscuring the view of a beauty's entirety?
or does the beauty create an awareness that there is the existence of an imperfection?
and then i realized.
there is no value without contrast and relativity.
there is no joy without grief.
there is no health without sickness.
there is no direction without confusion.
there is no salvation without condemnation.


a teacher, a mentor, a guide.
a gratifying role.
